Callas sounded less secure than at the time of her first recording in 1954, but is emphatically in far more solid voice than she was in when she returned to the role in 1964 and 1965 in Paris.s This performanes preserves her final thoughts on the role of Norma, and while there are a few insecurities in the top notes, there's a softer and more warm interpretation here. I mujh prefer this performance to the subsequent versions, and a few of the earlier ones asa well. I don't know how she did it, but she was STILL the Druid Priestess. An artist who changed the course and direction of opera.
