In 1997 the 125th Anniversary of Vaughan Williams was celebrated and the Royal Opera Covent Garden presented "The Pilgrim's Progress" semi-staged at the Barbican Hall in London. With a slightly changed cast ( the role of John Bunyan is here sung by Gwynne Howell) Chandos issued this work on CD, but this is a recording of the BBC broadcast of the live performance which formed the basis of the commercial issue.. I have left intact the announcements so that the cast and the background of the opera are clarified.
