Product Description

CD88036 Tosca - 8 February 1975 - Bergonzi, Zylis-Gara, Bacquier; Er

In the spirit of helping out, I would like to offer "my" version of this broadcast to augment the fine retrospective with which Bruce has been providing us. What the Met Archive does not tell us is that this was the debut of the (sadly-missed) Peter Allen, who had the thankless task of announcing the death of Milton Cross AND the indisposition of Bergonzi. This is my recollection, but there are no announcements on this copy (apologies to those who enjoy them...) Bergonzi provides a lesson in "how to sing on a bad day," and I for one would rather have Bergonzi on a bad day than almost anyone else in fine fettle!

My source is an excellent first generation open reel (2400' recorded at 7 1/2 ips) purchased from the Boston-area collector who originally recorded it.

Enjoy!

Important Information!!!
USA Telephone (404) 200-4776 We sell only opera recordings. The recordings are sent to you in paper sleeves with no tray card or inserts, just the raw discs with printed labels. These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
