Product Description

CD85804 Tannhauser exc./ Beirer, Hillebrecht, Zilliken

Here is a selection from Wagner´s Tannhäuser from a terribly scratched LP restored with Waveburner and Click Repair. It´s now quite listenable. I would be glad to have these singer on stage today. Hildegard Hillebrecht has been a long time member of the Bayerische Staatsoper singing a wide repertoire from Mozart and Verdi roles to Wagner. In later years she even undertook Isolde. Hillebrecht made some commercial recordings for DGG, EMI and Eurodisc. Most of them - like the DGG Böhm Ariadne - helped to ruin her fame for most collectors. Her live Jenufa from Munich and this selections are much better. The Austrian Hans Beirer was THE Heldentenor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin up to his mid-seventies. He sang at nearly all major opera houses round the world. He could be variable from from bad evenings with vague intonation to great one´s but he had a type of voice that´s nearly extinct today. The baritone Theo Zilliken is the most unknown of the three singers. As Hillebrecht and Beirer he has been a longtime member of a company, the Hannover opera house. For 26 years he has been the leading baritone of the cpmany. His roles included Figaro, Don Giovanni, Escamillo, Tonio, Renato, Germont and Wolfram.
