Recorded on Thursday night in the Concert Hall of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

In November 2005, the distinguished Australian conductor Simone Young became the first woman to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic, having made similar history twelve years earlier at the Vienna State Opera. She conducted her first Ring Cycle there in 1999. Since then, Simone Young has led acclaimed performances of the cycle in Berlin and at the Hamburg State Opera, where she has been has been Music Director and General Manager since 2005.

This concert performance of the first opera from the Ring was given as part of QPAC's Hamburg Season in Brisbane. Simone Young conducts the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra with members of the Hamburg State Opera alongside guest singers, some of whom have performed at the Bayreuth Festival.
