Here's a very nice performance of Simon Boccanegra given in English by Sadler's Wells. Sadler's Wells had premiered the opera in Britain in 1948 and followed that with a broadcast early in 1949. I don't know if that survives, but the following season Sadler's Wells performed it again and the BBC broadcast it again. This is taken from the BBC broadcast (with announcements) and is in typical AM mono for the period. There are odd dropouts but generally the sound is fine. 160kps mono
