Here's the sixth installment (broadcast Saturday afternoon 21 August 2010) of France Musique's summer of old archive recordings of this particularly marvellous French genre. It's also the third programme in his series entitle 'les belles archives de l'opérette' produced by Jean-Christophe Keck.
I wasn't at home when the recording was made, and it was transferred from the DVD recorder to the computer last night so I haven't heard any of this. I expect it's up to the same high standards as previously, however. Technical details below.
The majority of the programme is devoted to Offenbach's late work La Fille du tambour-major (1879) - which runs at about two and a quarter hours.
Among the smaller pieces is a half hour of extracts of a work nobody believed had been recorded by ORTF until it was rediscovered by Jean-Christophe Keck. It's Offenbach's 1862 operetta, Voyage de MM. Dunanan père et fils.
The pieces numbered 5, 6 and 7 are from commercial recordings, but they're so short, the first two running at 3 and a half minutes each and the third at four and a half minutes, I'm sure they can be counted as 'sampling' material.
