I can date this performance precisely to November 16, 1961. The Times reviewed the concert the next day and stated that this was first time Mahler 3 had been performed in the UK by a professional orchestra. The Times was generally positive about the performance. I am not sure of the provenance of the recording, it sounds good enough to be a BBC broadcast, but if the BBC recorded it they did not broadcast it on Nov 16th. Perhaps it was an internal taping.
