CD87377 Handel: Orlando Minter/McGegan '83

Handel: Orlando Baroque Festival Washington University, St. Louis 26 February 1983 In-house recording

Christine Armistead – Angelica Sally Bradshaw – Dorinda Drew Minter – Orlando Deborah Harrison – Medoro Nicholas Solomon – Zoroastro

Nicholas McGegan – conductor

In honor of Handel's 326th birthday(23 February 1685), here is an upload of what seems to be a favorite opera of McGegan (who is conducting this piece again this summer at Tanglewood). But this is the earliest version I have found by him--a performance dating from his residency at Washington University in the early 80s with a fine young American cast; the orchestra, to my ears, sounds like a period band but my information does not provide confirmation of this nor a name for the group. The only downside is an overzealous audience which almost always applauds before the music ends and even claps for stage effects

Important Information!!!
USA Telephone (404) 200-4776 We sell only opera recordings. The recordings are sent to you in paper sleeves with no tray card or inserts, just the raw discs with printed labels. These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
