Product Description

CD86407 Fidelio Venice 1998 Bundschuh/West/Hagen

I want to share with you a recording I made from RAI Radio 3 a few years ago. A mainly imported cast gave a blazing performance of "Fidelio" at the Fenice in Venice. Eva-Maria Bundschuh gives a sometimes tremulous performance but gets to the heart of the character of Leonore and Jon Frederic West sounds frighteningly intense as Florestan. I loved this performance and still do.

There was an error in the radio transmission at the start and the opening bars were not broadcast, according to my notes at the time. There is a momentary tape drop-out at the start of act 2.

If anyone can upload a perfect copy, please do so. An exact date of the broadcast would also be very welcome.

Best wishes Roger D Bell Lancashire England
