ERNANI has never been a popular opera (but remember Corelli and Price in the 1960s?). in fact it has only been performed at the Met 88 times with its premier in 1903.
And of course, the Turkish soprano, Leyla Gencer. is a greatly underrated singer-- she was known as "La Diva Turca" (The Turkish Diva). She never sang at the Met and made very few recordings. We are fortunate that almost her entire repertoire can be founded on "pirated" records.
