Product Description

CD92769 Frederick Stock & the CSO - Schumann 4th Symphony (Am. Colum

Here is Frederick Stock and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing the Schumann 4th Symphony. Recorded by CBS Columbia on April 25, 1941. This transfer was taken from the LP issue Entre' RL–3026.

This is a compelling performance, having the electricity and drive of a live recording. It's all the more impressive as Stock, like many conductors of his time, disliked the start-and- stop recording process. And Columbia's use of 16 inch, 33rpm lacquers as masters led to a recording that, once LP records were introduced, had startlingly good sound for the age.
