Re: Dargomyzhsky: Rusalka, Kozlovsky . cast and a question

Here's more complete cast information, but see the question below about recording date:

Alexander Sergeyevich Dargomyzskii RUSALKA

Prince - Ivan Kozlovsky Princess - Veronika Borisenko Miller - Aleksei Krivchenya Natasha - Eugenia Smolenskaya Olga - Maria Miclau, Maria Miglan (this may be just alternate spellings) The Match-Maker - Ivan Skobstov The Little Mermaid- Vera Tumanova

Orchestra and Chorus of the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow conducted by EVGENY SVETLANOV Bolshoi Moscow

Now come the prickly question of recording date which seems very difficult to establish. The upload gives 1947, frankly implausible if Svetlanov is conducting. Clor give "195?". Ommer give "1964?" and another source, a listing for the recording, give 1958. My own list for a previous acquired copy lists 1957.

Kozlovsky was active through this entire time span. The following is quoted from the official Svetlanov web site: "Svetlanov gave his first concert performances as a conductor on the radio as early as 1953, while he was still a student. Two years later, he returned to the Bolshoi as principal assistant. In 1962 he was appointed principal conductor, becoming honorary principal conductor in 1999." This actually supports the likelyhood of the Ommer date, though as "principal assistant" in 1957 or '58 he may well have conducted a recording. I believe The Record Collector has published a Kozlovsky discography which would answer the question. I think I have that but not where I am currently. Does anyone have further thoughts? FK
