Product Description

CD90502 Levine conducts Mahler NY Phiharmonic 1976

Here are two broadcast concerts from the NY Philharmonic's 1976 Mahler Festival, these two conducted by James Levine, Symphony No. 6 and No. 8. I haven't found them on OperaShare before and they have been taken from my own off-air open reel stereo tapes as broadcast in January, 1977 over Seattle KING-FM. Martin Bookspan commentary included. The first 3 mvts of the 6th are merged so users may want to insert tracks. mp3 files 320kbps

Mahler: Symphony No. 6 concert of October 2, 1976 Mahler: Symphony No. 8 concert of October 9, 1976 Soloists Carol Neblett (Magna Peccatrix); Teresa Zylis-Gara (Penitent, Gretchen); Kathleen Battle (Mater Gloriosa); Lili Chookasian (Samaritana); Gwendolyn Killebrew (Maria Aegyptiaca); Kenneth Riegel (Dr. Marianus); Michael Devlin (Pater Ecstaticus); Donald McIntyre (Pater Profundis) Westminster 41Choir, Brooklyn Boy's Chorus; NY Philharmonic Carnegie Hall

Decent offair stereo given a slight l channel bias. For those who burn CDs, the second and third files can be combined to constiute the second disc with the last mvt of the 6th and first of the 8th. 3 CDs altogether. Enjoy

These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
