Product Description

CD89953 Kubelik & the University of Illinois Orch - complete concer

During his brief time as Music Director of the CSO, Rafael Kubelik conducted the University of Illinois Orchestra during a Contemporary Music Festival at Urbana in 1952. The concert, March 29, 1952 at the Auditorium, consisted of the following works:

Binkerd: Sun Singer Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 6 Honegger: Monopartita for Orchestra Chavez: Sinfonia India Arnold: Baekus the Dandipratt Overture

The files presented here are first generation copies of professional in-house recordings kept at the U of I archives. They possess excellent sound for their age, although there is some tape saturation especially near the end of the Chavez.

I burned a private CD for some collectors several years ago, and thanks to a fellow collector in Paris, it was included in the on-line Kubelik discography: These are really, really fine performances. Of course, several unnamed CSO members `helped out' in the orchestra for this concert!

Zip file Mono mp3 VBR 320 kbps max. 64 meg.
