Thielemann was criticized by the press because Strauss composed the first piece (Festmusik) for the 5th anniversary of Austria's "Anschluss" (annexion) and the last piece was played 1943 for Hitlers birthday. But Karl Böhm and H. v. Karajan played after World War II. This is all explained in the introduction.
