mp3 only I'm afraid - the flac files have vanished into thin air.

RAI3 dipped into its archives this weekend and turned up three operas of Cimarosa. Two of them are one acters: La Baronessa Stramba and L'impresario in Angustie, the third comes in two acts: La Vanitā Delusa or Il Mercato di Malmantile.

I'll be uploading these operas separately, and here's the first, La Baronessa Stramba, a comic opera. Libretto is by Pasquale Mililotti, with revisions by Renato Parodi. It was first performed during the 1786 carnival at Naple's Teatro Nuovo. It's also known as Il credulo and Il credulo deluso.

The recording is of a lively performance given in Naples, 30 September 1958 (it isn't the 1956 Milan recording issued on Archipel in other words).

The cast

Donna Gironda...............Elena Rizzieri Pulcinella..................Paolo Montarsolo Don Settimio................Leonardo Monreale Bastiano Malerba (Cordino)..Gino Sinimberghi Biondina (Bellarosa)........Rosanna Giancola Lisetta.....................Angelica Tuccari

Orchestra dell'Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti di Napoli della Rai Conductor, Franco Caracciolo

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't the slightest idea what's going on in this caper, and a synopsis isn't readily available. Perhaps some of OperaShare's members could help here.

The whole thing lasts just a minute over an hour. I haven't split it up into scenes etc, since I wouldn't know where to start. I am providing a sample for each of the operas however (in lower grade mp3 audio).

USA Telephone (404) 200-4776 We sell only opera recordings. The recordings are sent to you in paper sleeves with no tray card or inserts, just the raw discs with printed labels. These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
