Proms Saturday Matinee 4: Nash Ensemble

Saturday 28 August 2010 - Cadogan Hall, London

Our Schumann bicentenary survey continues with his amiable Piano Quartet, a work that occupies a similar place in artists' and audiences' affections to his Piano Quintet (heard in Proms Chamber Music 2).

In the first of a trio of matinees that see today's composers respond to music of the past (see Proms Saturday Matinee 5 & 6), Robin Holloway, in his five Fantasy-Pieces, frames the Schumann song-cycle that inspired them. (His new take on another Schumann song-cycle features in Prom 74.) Edward Gardner conducts the Nash Ensemble in the second of his two Proms this year (see Prom 42).
