Product Description

CD81811 John Field by Malcolm Sargent and Denis Matthews (1943, 1945

Here is some piano music by John Field, in its original form and as orchestrated by Sir Hamilton Harty.

The Harty arrangement of four pieces (Polka, Nocturne, "Rememberance" Slow Waltz and "Midi" Rondo) and collectively entitled "A John Field Suite" is played by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. This was recorded March 15, 1943 (first three movements) and May 7, 1943, and issued on five sides of UK Columbia DX 1118/20. The filler for the set, also recorded May 7, 1943, is "Serious Doll," the second movement of Elgar's "Nursery Suite" of 1931.
