The actual recording was done in 1973 (5-12 June), at the Brno Radio Studio - nearly forty years after its completion in 1935.
It's a one acter with a libretto by Martinu after Václav Kliment Klicpera which deals with the impending cessation of a truce between warring parties. A couple of sentries, one from each side, are guarding their respective ends of a bridge. Just at this point, several civilians turn up, wishing to cross the bridge, the ensuing complications of which fill out the opera's basic plot
