Product Description

CD5947 Donizetti maria Stuarda 1967 Florence 2

In the OperaShare database we can find many recording versions of the opening night of the 1967 Florence production of Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" starring the great Leyla Gencer and Shirley Verrett. The present upload is of the second night on 05 May 1967. The sound quality is considerably better compared to the première.

Note also that Gencer is applauded in open scene after pronouncing her chest-toned "piè" in the "Figlia impura di Bolena" curse scene just before the begining of the concertato itself. A truly thrilling performance!

Enjoy La Divina Turca!
