Product Description

CD544100 Bernstein 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue May 1976 Leonard Bernstein: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Mark Helinger Theater May, 1976 Recorded in-house at one of only seven performances between May 4 and May 8, 1976. Lerner and Bernstein's historic flop and since rarely if ever performed. Alan Jay Lerner's book was savaged by the critics but Bernstein's score (or what was left of it after tryouts) was widely praised and admired. Wiki has an excellent article on the show and complete cast information is available at Ken Howard played all of the Presidents and Patricia Routledge all of the First Ladies (1800-1900). Guy Costley plays Little Lud and Gilbert Price the grownup Lud, the White House servant who sees it all. Routledge received a standing ovation for her Act 2 "Duet For One" on opening night and that sounds like what happens on this recording so it could be opening night. The sound is really very good, all of the lyrics and dialogue crystal clear. Unzip folder to three tracks. CD1 would have most of Act 1 77:34 CD2 has the completion of Act 1 8:36 and Act 2 55:24 MP3 320Kbps

USA Telephone (404) 200-4776 We sell only opera recordings. The recordings are sent to you in paper sleeves with no tray card or inserts, just the raw discs with printed labels. These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
