Suchon's Krutnava (The Whirlpool)
In the 1940's the foremost Slovak composer set out to create a Slovak national opera. It was to be at the same time reminiscent of Slovak folk music and informed as to modern compositional practice. The result is Krutnava. It begins like a murder mystery with the discovery of a dead man, but it goes on to explore the psyches of the three main characters as well as to give a large role to the villagers who make up the milieu in which everything happens, with a folklore background and scenes from Easter, a wedding, etc.

The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
