CD89417 Sills in Lucia - Houston 1971

To commemorate the birthday of Beverly Sills (May 25), here's a performance of Lucia from Houston.

The recording was made from the wings on one side of the stage, which makes the sound a bit lop-sided. The voices are always clear, but are louder and more present when nearer the side with the recorder. Also, as the recorder was backstage behind the curtain, you can hear, at the beginning and end of each scene, stagehands putting things in place and a few cue calls from the stage manager. The music is briefly muffled when the curtain is down at the beginning and end of a scene.

Nevertheless, I think this is a worthy performance of one of Sills' signature roles.
