Diese Oper von Pavesi war nach der Premiere an der Mailaender Scala 1810 jahrelang ein Renner und kam immer auf den Spielplan, wenn es galt, schnell eine durchgefallene Rossini-Oper zu ersetzen. Im Grunde ist die Oper das exakte Gegenstueck zu Rossinis "Turco in Italia": Ser Marcantonio ist am Ende froh, ist erleichtert, die viel zu junge Frau, die er unbedingt heiraten wollte, wieder los zu sein.
