CD83247 Elektra Syracuse (NY) Stapp/Chookasian/Costa

Thanks to Mr. Richard Decker of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, I was able to get a cast listing for the "Elektra" broadcast that Roger Bell was kind enough to post. The performance was originally recorded and broadcast by WONO-FM (now defunct) in Syracuse. It was taken from performances done on April 21st and 23rd, 1977 in the Crouse-Hinds Concert Theater of the Onondaga County Civic Center. It was broadcast on WONO on Sunday, May 1st, 1977. As it turns out, the Chrysothemis was not Mary Costa, but Natalie Costa, another soprano who was active at the time in somewhat heavier repertory (e.g. Butterfly and other Puccini roles, Santuzza) than Mary Costa's usual lighter-weight roles. Here is the complete cast:

Elektra: Olivia Stapp, soprano Chrysothemis: Natalie Costa, soprano Klytemnestra: Lili Chookasian, mezzo-soprano Orestes: Richard Cross, bass Aegisthus: Alan Crabb, tenor The Guardian of Orestes/An Old Servant: Donald Miller, bass-baritone A Young Servant: Michael O'Hanlon, tenor Klytemnestra's Confidante: Christine Klemperer, soprano Klytemnestra's Trainbearer/The Maid Servants' Overseer: Donna Miller, soprano (no relation to Donald Miller, BTW) Five Maid Servants: Jean Loftus, mezzo-soprano Linda Mattingly, mezzo-soprano Frances Webb, mezzo-soprano Christine Klemperer, soprano Sheila Allen, soprano
