Product Description

CD83914 Elektra ROH CG 1997 Polaski/Mattila/Palmer

In 1997 there was a series of performances of "Elektra", and various cast changes. On the 13th May the title role was sung by Deborah Polaski and Chrysothemis by Karita Mattila. John Allison in "Opera" ( now the editor) thought that "the notoriously `unsingable` role cannot have had all that many better interpreters ` than Polaski and that "karita Mattila's Chrysothemis matched her both musically and dramatically'.

This cast was not broadcast, and this in-house recording by the kindness of a friend is raw and harsh ( appropriately ?)…well it's no lullaby after all….so if you listen to it, be prepared for a very moderate level of audio pleasure. If a better recording is lurking on someone's shelf, please show it the light of day.

Best wishes Roger D Bell Lancashire England

These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
