Product Description

CD95560 Respighi Botticelli Triptych from Vanguard VRS 418 - Litschauer VSOO

Here is an early (1951) LP featuring the conductor Frantz Litschauer & the Vienna State Opera in music of Respighi (the Botticelli Triptych) and with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra in an early 18th century piece by composer Pietro Locatelli.(Concerto for strings and piano). It has never been reissued on CD. The transfer is from my personal collection.

Litschauer made a number of recordings for Vanguard, including Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances. Data regarding his career, however, is a bit slim. Wikipedia mentions his founding of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra in 1948 and the Cairo Symphony in 1959.

The Vanguard recording mentions that it is a premier recording (assuming the reference is to the Triptych). For an LP issue this appears correct. However, English Brunswick 78 sides were made in of the Triptych in November, 1928 by the London Chamber Orchestra under Anthony Bernard.

Zip file mono FLACs 85 MB – file includes scans of the labels, album jacket, and a brief review of the record from the Gramophone in 1952.
