Šelma sedlák (The Cunning Peasant - Antonín Dvorák)

The Prince - Jindrich Jindrák The Princess, his wife - Alena Míková Martin, a rich farmer - Karel Berman Betuška, his daughter - Miloslava Fidlerová Václav, a peasant's son - Bohumír Vích Veruna, a shepherdess - Vera Krilová Jeník, a servant - Jaroslav Kachel Berta, a maid - Helena Tattermuschová Jean, a servant - Antonín Votava

Vocal Ensemble of Czechoslovak Radio Chorus master - Milan Malý Prague Radio Orchestra Conductor - Josef Hrncír 1961Recorded to wav from internet stream and converted to mono mp3 (192 kbps – overkill, I know). Sound is excellent, especially for its age. The zip file contains one file for each act (Act 1 = 71 minutes; Act 2 = 44 minutes). It also includes a Word.doc file with proper Czech accents.

Czech Radio is currently featuring a chronological cycle of broadcasts of all of Dvorák's operas. I have uploaded The Stubborn Lovers, and sometime in the future I hope eventually to upload the broadcasts of King and Charcoal Burner and Vanda, which vacations and technical problems have prevented me from uploading thus far. Next week there will be the premiere of a new production of Jakobín from the National Theater.

This Cunning Peasant is weak in the plot of its derivative libretto (a jumble from The Bartered Bride, In the Well and The Marriage of Figaro which I am not going to try to explain for you now); but the music is lively and full of invention with some wonderful ensembles. It is here very well sung. Let yourself be surprised.

Important Information!!!
USA Telephone (404) 200-4776 We sell only opera recordings. The recordings are sent to you in paper sleeves with no tray card or inserts, just the raw discs with printed labels. These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
