The recent upload by Koloalso of this performance by Nationaltheater Muenchen as guests of The Royal Swedish Opera was accompanied by a wish to have an alternative recording and here it is. Whether an improvement of that of the late Erich Kornau remains for listeners to decide.
The performance was broadcast by Sveriges Radio and recorded on non-professional equipment in my home. I was myself in the audience not wanting to miss what was for Swedish opera-lovers a big event. The performance was memorable in many respects. Sweden was hit by the worst storm in decades and during the end of the prologue there are heavy disturbances and distorsions, probably caused by the wind and/or thunderbolts. Strangely enough it was also felt by the artists and the audience seated under the roof of the opera house and the public returning home that night will not easily forget neither the musical, nor the meteorological experience.
Open reel tape recording in MONO converted to Mp3 192 Kbits/S. The prologue was tape recorded at the higher speed (7 ½) which will result in a more open sound and the Opera itself at 3 ¾.
