CD86214 Benzi conducts 'French' Faust in Amsterdam (mp3 and wav)

Sorry, but the date must be October 28, 1972. Your date is not possible, because it is a Thursday. We have seen this performance in the Concertgebouw and it was a great afternoon.

> Digitalizing old tapes I found this legendary and really exciting Faust from the so-called 'VARA-matinees' (now 'Saturday Matinees') in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Roberto Benzi leads four outstanding French protagonists (surely the Australian tenor Albert Lance may be regarded as a 'French' tenor) and a few Dutch soloists in the most 'French' and probably the most complete Faust I ever witnessed. Unfortunately my tape had two very bad moments and I had to cut not only the applause immediately after the 'garden scene', but also eight seconds of music in the chorus scene preceding the soldiers' chorus. It is a very decent cut (I suppose you have to know the music very well to hear it), only eight seconds on more than three hours of music, but it is a cut all the same. Apart from that the sound is amazingly well preserved for a nearly forty years old recording. > > I give you the recording in mp3 (320 kbps) and wave-flac, split up in scenes, but without cue sheets. > > Gounod: Faust > Albert Lance - Faust > Roger Soyer - Mephistopheles > Andree Esposito - Marguerite > Robert Massard - Valentin > Elisabeth Cooymans - Marthe > Rina Cornelissens - Siebel > Cor Niessen - Wagner > Chorus of the Dutch Radio > Radio Philharmonic Orchestra > Conductor: Roberto Benzi > > Recorded at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, 26 October 1972 > Broadcast by the VARA (Dutch Radio) > > mp3 (320 kbps):
