Christoph von Dohnanyi conducts the Kölner Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester in recordings from 1957 to 1969

Christoph von Dohnanyi was the musical director of the Cologne broadcast company´s symphony orchestra from 1964 up to 1969. Here are concert performances from this period including his first concert as musical director with Schubert´s "Zauberharfe" overture and the last one with Pfitzner´s "Käthchen von Heilbronn" overture. Dohnanyi´s farewell from Cologne was an unhappy one. The orchestra that von Dohnanyi was more busy abroad than at Cologne and a voting where nearly the complete orchestra voted against von Dohnanyi proved to become the end of his contract. He never again conducted the orchestra. The Mozart concerto is from the very first concert von Dohnanyi gave with the orchestra. An evening with young promising talents. The 27 years old conductor just had become the youngest chief conductor of a German opera house at Lübeck and the Kontarskys just had won the highly respected ARD music competition at Munich.
