CD83676 Ormandy in Schumann and McDonald symphonies

Two symphonies from a great conductor whom I long took for granted, Eugene Ormandy, in early recordings he made with the Philadelphia Orchestra. First is Schumann's Symphony No. 2 in C, Op. 61, recorded in 1936 or 1937 and released as Victor Musical Masterpiece set M-448, a set of 5 78-rpm records. It's a fine reading that makes one regret Ormandy didn't record a complete Schumann symphony cycle. The ZIP file contains 4 MP3 files at 160kbps, and a text file: The other symphony is "The Santa Fe Trail," the three-movement Symphony No. 1 by Colorado-born Harl McDonald (1899-1955), the business manager of the Philadelphia Orchestra. (The cynical side of me would say that is the only reason his music got recorded! but actually, the piece is rather fun in its neo-Debussyan, picture-postcard sort of way.) This was recorded October 20, 1940, and released as Victor Musical Masterpiece set M-754, a set of 3 78-rpm records. The ZIP file contains 3 MP3 files at 160 kbps, JPG scans of the booklet, and a text file:
