Product Description

CD11116 Tchaikovsky Dame de Pique 1982 Huston

In response to a request for this performance, I upload a transfer from my "first generation" audiocassettes. There is one gap in Act 1 due to the tape turnaround syndrome, but I hope it will not be noticed. There are a couple of other blemishes but they are brief. This production made ample use of the thunder machine and the wind machine; the worst case is the beginning of the scene where Hermann confronts the Countess. The quiet string music at the start of this scene is no match for the thunder and wind :-( The English translation is by Boris Goldovsky, with minor changes here and there.

The cast:

Hermann: Jacque Trussel Lisa: Patricia Wells The Countess: Maureen Forrester Count Tomsky: Rodney Stenborg Prince Yeletsky: David Parsons Pauline: unidentified Tchekalinsky: Luke Ford Sourin: Will Ray Naroumov: Greer Grimsley Tchaplitsky: Edgar Moore et al. unidentified comprimarii

Houston Grand Opera and Chorus conducted by Franz-Paul Dekker

Date: 1981/1982 Season, delayed broadcast by NPR.

These recordings are of nonprofessional quality that are in the public domain. The quality of these old opera recordings is not very good and they are meant for collectors and educational purposes only. Most of them are 30 or 40 years old, so they might be blurry, colors faded, and not sound very good, but they might not be available elsewhere. Please note that most of our recordings do not have tracks, they have 1 long track per disc.
